Documenting the Restoration of your Pedal Car
What does that mean? Why should you bother to document the restoration? Will this process increase the value of my Pedal Car?
These are some of the questions that we are asked by our customers when we discuss Documented Restorations. When a Pedal Car is of high value or a rarity documenting all aspects of the restoration will be a asset when it comes time to sell the car. First we need to explain what Documentation means.
Documentation starts with the day you receive your new treasure. After you receive the Pedal Car take good clear photos of the car from all angles. Try to highlight the good things about the car and also the damaged areas. Make a note of where, who and how much you paid for the car and what parts are missing or are reproduction. The next step is to locate copies of the original factory sales catalog. These catalogs will show you the correct equipment and colors that your Pedal Car originally had. This will also help you determine the correct year and model of your car.
If replacement parts are needed make a note of what parts have to be replaced and, it is always good to take pictures of these parts. Please note that you should not discard any damaged original parts that are replaced. Pictures must to be taken thorough all processes of the restoration. After the restoration is complete, again; take detailed photos showing the quality of the restoration and all angles of the completed car.
Now that you have documented the restoration, was it worth it? Yes! When it comes time to sell your Pedal Car the buyers are much more receptive to a restored Pedal Car when they can see everything that was done or replaced during the restoration. The buyer now knows exactly what they are buying.
To answer the last question, Yes it will increase the value of your car. Buyers like to know what they are getting and will gladly pay more for a restored Pedal Car that has a documented restoration.
With so many cars being reproduced, re-made, and poor quality restorations etc. available thru ebay and over the internet it is reassuring to a buyer to see proof that the car they are about to purchase is real. It also establishes trust and shows the buyer that you are a honest person.
